When diagnosed with HIV in 2012 I was unsure about my future as I was unaware of what my diagnosis entailed. In my head were images of death or loss from movies like And The Band Played On, Philadelphia, and RENT. I knew that everything was about to change and that there was nothing I could do to stop it.
I quickly discovered that everything I knew about HIV/AIDS was utterly wrong. HIV turns into AIDS if left untreated and while HIV is not the death sentence it once was there is no reason to think the HIV epidemic is over.
Now I am on a journey to change to the way people think about HIV by becoming a triathlon athlete. To become #TheHIVGuy who can get people to #RethinkHIV by exemplifying a possible life that people living with HIV can have when they retain proper HIV care.
